C.O.P. - A Creekside Tradition
C.O.P. stands for Community Outreach Project. It’s been a Creekside Tradition in our Student Ministry for 17 years. Students who have been to C.O.P. can’t wait to go again. Our younger students who have been around Creekside for years can’t wait until their “first C.O.P.”. Unfortunately, like most things in 2020, COVID canceled C.O.P. Our last one was back in 2019, and it kinda seems like a lifetime ago.
Do you want to know what I missed most about C.O.P.? I missed my Creekside family. I missed seeing the Breakfast Team volunteers make pancakes for our students. I missed the jokes the Lunch Team would pack in with our lunch coolers each day. I missed seeing how the Host Homes loved their students after a long day of “good work.” I missed the Work Leader meetings in the evenings where we shared how we saw God at work at our worksites and in our students. I missed the smiling faces of our Games Volunteers and our Gym Chaperones. I missed the willingness of our Adult Overnight Chaperones to spend the night with a bunch of teenagers. If you’ve ever volunteered for C.O.P., you know what I’m talking about. You know how good it feels to be in worship together as we serve our students. C.O.P. isn’t just for the Student Ministry, it's a Creekside ministry.
Well, this summer - C.O.P. is back! Matthew 5:16 tells us "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven". The students will get to go out into the community and do “good works.” They’ll be placed on teams, play crazy C.O.P. games, listen to an amazing speaker, sing their hearts out in worship, spend the night, and then do it all over again the next day. It’s time to be “church-wide” again - will you join us?
Did you know that it takes about 100 adult Volunteers for C.O.P. each year? We need Work Leaders, Host Homes, Kitchen Teams, Gym Chaperones, Overnight Chaperones, Tools Teams, and volunteers to assist with games and decorating. We can’t do C.O.P. without our volunteers.
